GETTING STARTED
You do not need to read this if you already have a chinchilla, a cage and the basic materials.
Pick Out Your Chinchilla
First things first, on the top of your list needs be get a chinchilla. to make sure you pick out a healthy one is very important. Your going to want to look for a chinchilla thats alert when removed from its cage, and its eyes should appear bright, any redness or puss could mean infection. Next you should look in the chinchillas ears and check if there's any redness or wax buildup, this could also be a sign of infection. Also very important, make sure you examine the chinchillas body, be sure to look for any sores, mats, Bugs, And anything that goes against the consistency of the fur. The next thing you should do to ensure choosing a healthy chinchilla is to feel where the its ribs are, There should be a thin layer over its ribs. A healthy chinchilla will not be fat or slim, you will be able to feel the ribs them but make sure there's a healthy layer of cushion over them. Be sure to examine its teeth as well. Make sure their straight and not overgrown. Another important thing to do before taking your fluffy friend home you is to spend a little time with the fur ball and see what kind of personality it has. (yes chinchillas do have personalities). It wont be super all over you, mega friendly but the it should be alert and somewhat receptive to human touch. If it attempts to or succeeds at bitting you, see if there is a better choice.
Next you need a cage, but the word cage sounds so dull and depressing. i like to call it a playhouse for your chinchilla to live in. there are a few things you kneed to consider when selecting a cage, if you decide to make your own these guidelines will apply in the same way. first off you need to decide how big your cage is going to be. remember that chinchillas are playful creatures they need to run and jump so the bigger the better i cant give a minimum size requirement. You can make multiple platform cages or cages with multiple rooms, any extravagant thing you can think off.

your cage will need some basic accessories, now these are just the basics there is a whole realm of possibilities, you can pimp out your cage anyway you want and your chinchilla will love it. so the basic things yo will need are a water-bottle, if you chose a plastic one do not put it inside the cage. the chinchilla will chew it to pieces so hang it outside the cage. next you need a wheel, this need to be at least 15 inches in diameter. Next up is bedding, this will cover the entire surface of your cage and will need to be changed weekly. it will absorb odors and waste. You will need a food and water bowl and toys for your chinchilla to chew on and play with. toys are a necessary part of having a chinchilla, they need toys to burn of energy and to chew on or they could have health problems but i will get into that later.
CAGES
you can make or buy a chinchilla cage. With chinchillas the #1 rule for chossing or making a cage is the bigger the better, Get as large a cage as you can. Chinchillas like to roam around and jump, they are very energetic. So to Make sure your pet is happy and can get the exercise it needs, buy or build a large chinchilla cage. It should large and be sure it has decent floor space, it should also be high, like a large bird cage. This is to insure room for your Chinchillas Natural and healthy need to jump and climb around. Ferret cages tend to fit the description and required dimensions quite well, so ferret cages will also great chinchilla cages, i highly recommend this and your chinchilla will absolutely love the amount of space and multiple levels. Some people will purchase a parrot cage for there chinchilla, while these cages do fit the hight de-mentions they don't quite fit a chinchillas needs, parrot cages may not make suitable chinchilla cages.
HOW TO MAKE AN AMAZING CHINCHILLA CAGE
once you have constructed a cage that fits the proper de-mentions of a good chinchilla cage the requirements for accessories such as food bowls, wheels, bedding, etc. are the same as a purchased cage.
